Commercial Washroom Installation for Offices, Retail & Leisure

When you walk into a business, one of the first things that tells you about their standards? Their washrooms. It might seem like a small detail, but we've learned over the years that these spaces say everything about how much a company cares about the people who visit them.

Look, we didn't set out to become washroom specialists. It just sort of happened after we kept seeing businesses with these awful facilities that were letting them down. You'd walk into an otherwise impressive office and then... well, let's just say the washrooms told a different story. After working across the UK for years now, we've realised something: people notice these things more than you'd think.

What We Do (And Why We Do It Differently)

Here's the thing about most commercial washroom projects – they start with someone measuring a space and trying to cram in as many fixtures as possible. Most companies start by measuring the space and trying to squeeze in as many loos as possible. That's backwards, really.

We start with questions instead. Who's going to use this space? When does it get crazy busy? Are we trying to impress visiting clients or just keep the staff happy? Any wheelchair access issues to think about? Are there any accessibility requirements we need to consider?

Once we've got all that sorted, our design team gets to work creating something that doesn't just look good, but actually works for your specific environment. We've worked on everything from sleek city offices to busy retail centres and each one needs something different.

Gardner Aerospace Case Study

Project Overview

Macaw Washrooms completed a washroom reconfiguration project for Gardner Aerospace in Derby, a leading aerospace manufacturing company and part of the Ligeance Aerospace Technology group.

The Challenge

With a growing workforce, the existing washroom facilities were no longer fit for purpose. The client needed to increase the number of cubicles and urinals whilst delivering a fresh, practical update suited to a high-traffic canteen environment within a busy manufacturing site.

What We Did

To maximise the available space, we converted the former ladies’ washroom into the new male facility, taking advantage of its larger footprint. The room was reconfigured 180 degrees, allowing for an additional toilet and two urinals, with new drainage and water feeds installed throughout. The new ladies’ washroom was fitted with three cubicles and a dedicated storage area for cleaning products.

The Result

A smart, practical solution that increased capacity for a growing aerospace workforce without the need for costly building work. Both washrooms now comfortably serve a busy manufacturing environment — clean, functional, and built to handle the demand.

Why Our Installation Process Won't Drive You Mad

You know what building work is usually like – everything covered in dust, noise that makes phone calls impossible and tradespeople who seem to vanish for days at a time. We've been on the receiving end of that ourselves and it's horrible.

So we've organised everything around one simple idea: you shouldn't have to put your business on hold just because you're getting new washrooms. Our installation teams are properly qualified (and DBS-checked, which gives everyone peace of mind), but more importantly, they understand that you've got a business to run. We'll work around your schedule, whether that means coming in at weekends, working evenings or finding creative ways to keep disruption to an absolute minimum.

When You Don't Need the Full Works

Not every washroom needs ripping out completely. Sometimes we walk into a job and think, "Actually, the bones of this are fine – it just needs some love."
Could be that your current setup works well but looks like it hasn't been touched since the 90s. Or maybe it's mostly good but needs updating for accessibility. A smart refurbishment can give you 80% of the impact for half the hassle and cost.

We've done some brilliant transformations over the years. New surfaces, decent lighting, fixtures that actually work properly – you'd be surprised how much difference it makes. Plus your customers and staff notice immediately.

What Goes Into Our Washrooms (And Why We're Fussy About It)

After doing this for years, you develop strong opinions about what works and what doesn't. We've seen expensive fixtures fall apart after six months and budget options that are still going strong years later.

Toilets and Urinals: Commercial toilets get hammered compared to domestic ones, so we stick with models designed for the job. Water-efficient is good, but not if they're unreliable or impossible to fix when something goes wrong. For urinals, we offer both traditional and waterless options, depending on what works best for your situation.

Washroom Cubicles: This is where we see a lot of variety. Standard laminate works brilliantly for most applications and comes in loads of colours. If you need something more robust, solid grade laminate is virtually indestructible. For executive washrooms, real wood veneer adds a premium feel, while glass cubicles give that contemporary, easy-to-clean finish that some clients love.

Hand Dryers and Accessories: Energy-efficient models that actually dry hands properly (we've all used those hopeless ones that barely blow warm air). Obviously we supply soap dispensers, mirrors, grab rails – all the fixtures and fittings.

Making Washrooms Work for Everyone: The accessibility side isn't just about ticking regulatory boxes. It's about making sure anyone who walks through your door feels welcome. We go beyond the minimum requirements because it's the right thing to do.

    Different Places, Different Needs

    Office Washrooms

Office washrooms have to juggle a lot. They need to cope with the 9am rush when everyone arrives with their coffee. They need to look professional when clients visit. And they need to keep your team happy day after day (because grumpy staff complain about everything and washrooms are usually top of the list). We often incorporate touch-free fixtures (especially popular since COVID), efficient layouts that prevent queues during busy periods and styling that fits with your office design.

    Retail Washrooms

When customers are deciding whether to spend time (and money) in your store, clean, well-designed washrooms can be surprisingly important. We focus on fixtures that can handle high footfall, surfaces that stay looking good despite heavy use and layouts that work for families with young children.

    Hospitality Washrooms

In hotels, restaurants and bars, washrooms are part of the overall guest experience. We often use higher-end materials, atmospheric lighting and thoughtful details that make guests feel looked after. It's about creating something that fits with your brand and leaves the right impression.

Why Clients Keep Coming Back to Us

After all these years, we've learned that the difference between a good washroom company and a great one comes down to a few key things:

We actually listen. Before we suggest anything, we want to understand your situation properly. What works for a busy retail centre won't work for a quiet office and we tailor our approach accordingly.
We're realistic about timescales and budgets. No nasty surprises halfway through the project, no excuses about why we're running late. We tell you upfront what things will cost and how long they'll take.

Our team is trustworthy. All our technicians are DBS-checked, but beyond that, they understand they're working in your space and treat it with respect.

We stand behind our work. Comprehensive warranties, ongoing support and if something does go wrong, we sort it out quickly and properly.
